Because transmission issues often escalate quickly, it’s important to get to the shop when you first suspect a problem. If you delay, then you may end up having to pay for repairs that are increasingly expensive. At Cruz-N-Carz, our local mechanics are highly experienced with transmission repair in the greater Pearland, TX area.

Common Indications of Transmission Trouble

Transmission fluid leaks are a common transmission problem, so it’s important to be familiar with evidence of such a leak. One sign of a leak is that there’s red-to-pink colored fluid on the ground below your vehicle. And if the fluid has a slightly sweet scent, then you have further reason to believe that it is indeed transmission fluid that’s leaking. You may also have a leak if you check your transmission fluid and the dipstick indicates that the fluid level has gotten worryingly low. It’s best to check your fluid at least once per month so that you’ll notice if your fluid is getting too low or has started to burn. Because transmission fluid provides lubrication, cooling, fluid pressure, and rust prevention, it’s very important that you’re driving with the right amount and that it’s unpolluted.

You’ll also want to get to the shop if your car is abruptly popping out of gear while you’re driving, which creates a safety hazard because you don’t have complete control over your vehicle’s patterns of acceleration. Gear slippage can occur if contaminants in transmission fluid obstruct the fluid’s flow, causing fluid pressure to drop to the point that your vehicle doesn’t stay in gear. The mechanic should also take a look if you encounter delayed shifting or herky-jerky shifting.

If you drive a manual transmission, you’ll want to watch out for indications of a clutch problem. Grinding sounds and burning odors are definitely concerning. And you should promptly visit the mechanic if your clutch pedal has become noisy, spongy, or is vibrating.
